Help the RE/MAX foundation to share some warmth this winter

June 2013

As the days get progressively shorter and temperatures drop, many South Africans who are less fortunate will feel the bite of the cold winter months ahead. It is for this reason that the RE/MAX Foundation, a non-profit organisation aimed at uplifting underprivileged communities and families in need, will be kicking off its Coats and Cans winter drive during the month of June.

"It goes without saying that winter is a particular tough season for those in need, especially with the harsh temperatures that are sometimes experienced throughout the season," says Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa and director of the RE/MAX Foundation."So often it is easy to take for granted the luxury of having a winter coat or a warm meal, and yet so many South Africans that are living below the breadline will not have those simple privileges. With this in mind, and in an effort to assist as many people in need as we can, RE/MAX offices around the country will be collecting winter coats and jerseys, along with non-perishable food items up until 28 June. A coat that is worn only once or twice a year could become a coat worn everyday by someone who really needs it."

Goslett adds that the collected items will be donated to various charities around the country as each RE/MAX office will nominate a charity for this collection within their community as living and working within a community can provide some insight into which organisations would benefit the most from the donations. The donations will be handed over to the beneficiaries during the first week of July. "The success of an initiative such as this is largely based on the response that we receive from the public. As the saying goes, ‘many hands make light work", and this is a prime example of that," says Goslett."We urge people across the country to visit their local RE/MAX office and donate some much needed items. The more donations we receive, the more people we will be able to help and just a small effort from each person within a community, can make a massive difference to so many lives in our country," he concludes.
