RE/MAX foundation launches countrywide initiative to benefit children in local communities

November 2013

The RE/MAX Foundation, which is supported by RE/MAX offices, agents, buyers, sellers and business associates, donates to over 100 local and national charities throughout the country. Over the past year, RE/MAX Foundation has raised over R1 million in support of these various charities and will run many programs during 2014.

Following on the success of the first RE/MAX Foundation initiative earlier this year, 1 December 2013 marks the start of the second RE/MAX Children’s Toy and Book Collection. On 30 January this year, local South African offices commemorated their Founder’s Day by handing over toys and books that were collected for various charities, crèches and orphanages which operate within their community. This was such a successful project that the RE/MAX Foundation, a non-profit organisation that aims to uplift underprivileged communities and families in need, has chosen repeat the initiative.

“This time of year is often a reminder for us about how fortune we are and how many children and families do not have some of the privileges that so many of us take for granted. It is a time of giving and sharing goodwill with those who truly need it,” says Adrian Goslett, CEO of RE/MAX of Southern Africa and director of the RE/MAX Foundation. “Projects such as the Toy and Book Collection give the public a chance to give back to and uplift their local community, making it a better place for all who live there. It is highly important for our brand to have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate and the RE/MAX Foundation initiatives have given us another vehicle through which to do just that.”

Goslett notes that the response from the public to the last collection was remarkable, however RE/MAX wishes to surpass last year’s volumes by extending the campaign to allow more time for people to participate in this worthy cause. “While a large number of children were able to benefit from the first collection, our aim is to extend the project’s reach and give more. For that reason, the campaign will run for two full months starting on 1 December and ending on 31 January 2014. The collected items will be handed over to the various nominated charities between 1 and 7 February 2014,” says Goslett.

He adds that the public will be able to drop off children’s toys and books at the local RE/MAX office in their area. To ensure that the local community benefits from the collections, each RE/MAX office will nominate a charity, crèche or orphanage in their area of operation that will receive all the toys and books. “This will ensure that those who choose to give will be supporting those in need in the community in which they live and work. Based on the generous response to the last campaign, I have no doubt that this project will be hugely successful and that we will make a massive difference in the lives of so many underprivileged children,” says Goslett.

The aim of the RE/MAX Foundation is to have an ongoing impact on the lives of young people in particular and empower them to be the best that they can be. Currently the foundation supports a number of national beneficiaries and over 75 local charities around South Africa through various corporate social investment initiatives.

“Giving back to the local community and uplifting the next South African generation is central to the RE/MAX of Southern Africa brand philosophy. We want the generation of tomorrow to be uplifted by our actions today,” Goslett concludes.
